IN TIME for the 40th anniversary of Australia’s most celebrated Vietnam War victory comes this re-released documentary Long Tan, The True Story.
Using new and archival interviews and footage with commanders and soldiers from both sides of the battle, the documentary explores not only the events of the day on August 18, 1966, but importantly it looks at the preparations, incidents and intelligence that lead-up to the encounter.
Listening to Viet Cong commanders admit that they wouldn’t have been able to conduct the war with the Australians in the Phuoc Tuy province, and how they conducted their intelligence-gathering will provide a new insight into their battle planning for many viewers.
