Cyclists share elite company

TRUE GRIT: The ADF Cycling Club is appealing for new members to join the twowheeled fraternity.

By ABPH Quentin Mushins

Members of the ADF Cycling Club (ADFCC) rode alongside Olympic gold medallist Kathy Watt during the Tour De Perth last month.

The event was held in Kalamunda, which is in the hills of Western Australia 45 minutes east of Perth.

The field comprised riders from all over Australia as well as Malaysia’s national team and Watt, who made the trip from Victoria to compete.

The Kalamunda region has developed a reputation for providing a tough venue for the national road series category one Tour.

The Tour comprises four stages over two days including a 4.2km time trial, two 60km road races and a 1 hour criterium.

ADFCC members Jason Pelham and Daniel Marsden both competed in the strong field and performed well. Both riders managed to come across the line in the top 20 in a field of 60.

Anyone interested in joining the ADFCC should contact their local representatives.

  • For further information on cycling in the ADF or to nominate as a cycling representative contact ADFCC president Capt Marc Hastie on (07) 47717507 or email marc.hastie@defence.gov.au.
