Guided-missile
frigate HMAS Darwin has taken over duties from HMAS Adelaide in
The Gulf.
Defence Minister Robert Hill said this contribution included the
important work of protecting Iraq’s offshore export oil terminals;
monitoring, intercepting and boarding vessels suspected of illegally
trafficking oil and other cargo that diverts funds from the Iraqi
economy, and preparing to hand over security responsibilities
to the Iraqi Defence Forces.
Rear Admiral Rowan Moffitt, RAN farewelled Darwin as she left
Fleet Base West late last year.
”The men and women in HMAS Darwin have been working hard in preparation
for this deployment and I know they will do an excellent job,”
Senator Hill said.
Senator Hill also thanked the families and friends of the Navy
personnel deploying to The Gulf.
