Ballarat back safely

HMAS Ballarat in happier times before she ran aground off Christmas Island.

HMAS Ballarat in happier times before she ran aground off Christmas Island.

HMAS Ballarat has berthed at Fleet Base West following her passage from Christmas Island where she ran aground in late January.

The damage sustained as a result of the grounding was not as severe as initially suspected and the ship was able to return to Fleet Base West under her own power.

HMAS Ballarat will undergo further inspection by divers, at FBW, to allow Navy engineers to assess whether she can safely continue on to Williamstown in Victoria, where she will undergo routine maintenance.
