This double CD pack is a world music listening delight. CD one, Velvet, is mellow, subdued and relaxed, while Beat Up ups the beat – both CDs are layered with sounds from Africa to South America with a touch of French sophistication.

Music Live from The Panel
various artists
Liberation

Possibly the best part of The Panel is the live music, which always sounds better in such an intimate environment. This CD has the tracks of the 2005 series, with artists such as Alex Lloyd, David Gray, Jet, The Cat Empire and Amiel you’re guaranteed a special listening experience.

How to dismantle an atomic bomb
U2
Island

Rough, raw and tight – U2 are back with a vengeance. The Edge has rediscovered his rock and roll heart, and he powers this album along with a tempo to match his pulse. Bono is terrific as usual, but you can hear a fragile edge to his voice.

Adam Clayton’s bass playing has never been so lyrical, and Larry Mullin’s drumming is perfection.

This CD is instantly so familiar that you would be excused for thinking it’s a greatest hits album.

The package is complemented by the inclusion of a superb DVD featuring interviews and video clips.

Greatest Hits Volume-1
Korn
Epic

Unlike most so-called “greatest hits” album, this truly is an offering of Korn’s best work.

Covering every facet of their lengthy career to date, this is not just a cheap money grab. For the price of a full-length album you get 19 tracks, including a stirring rendition of Pink Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall.

You also get a DVD of a live performance at the CBGB in New York, which sounds like a 76mm gun going off in your lounge room. It certainly had this reviewer jumping around like an idiot.

For Korn fans this is definitely a worthy addition to your collection, for new fans it’s a great way to get into them. For everybody else, cover your ears.

EMI

This CD is summer on a disc. It’s full of laid back tunes that will make you wish you were on the beach chilling out with friends.

It has the current popular alternative Australian artists such as Jet, Missy Higgins and Gelbison, as well as overseas artists Gomez and Ben Harper.

A great listen, the album will stick in your head like sand in your togs.
