Competitive
rivalry was the order of the day when the New Entry Officers Course
(NEOC 31) at HMAS Creswell conducted the Pixley Cup.
Held on the quarterdeck, the Cup saw competition from the current
NEOC Divisions, Flinders, Jervis and Phillip.
Jervis Division was going for its third straight victory but Flinders
proved too strong this time, etching its name on the cup for the
first time in four years.
Events included Stores Transfer (tyre roll race), Hands to Scran
(apple bob), Casualty Evacuation, (threelegged race), Away Seaboat
(raft carry), Jackstay Line (three way tug-o-war), Action stations
(baton relay in overalls & anti-flash), Toxic Hazard (egg throw)
and tent building.
The division with the highest accumulative score would be declared
the Pixley Cup winners.
Points were awarded three for first, two for second and one for
last.
The inter-divisional rivalry was fierce all day and the final
score reflected the nail biting finish with only 2.5 point’s separating
first and third.
After final results were calculated, Flinders was crowned the
worthy winners taking home the much awaited Pixley Cup with 32.5
pts followed by Phillip on 31.5 and Jervis the previous winners
of the last two intakes finishing in third with 30 pts.
The cup, an historic divisional event was named after Sir Neville
Drake Pixley, a Naval Officer of WWII era.
