AUDIT self-assessment

By Donna Bull

THE ADF Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Service (ATODS), established in 2002, is the primary provider of health-based ATOD services to ADF personnel.

The fi rst point of contact for commanders seeking ATOD-related advice or referral for members is the local ADF health or psychology facility. How can the member determine whether he or she may have an alcohol-related risk, and also work out the level of risk, in private?

The most widely used screen for alcohol use in Australia is called AUDIT (the Alcohol Use Disorders Identifi cation Test). ADF health providers also use AUDIT to assist them to make decisions about appropriate treatment options for people using alcohol in excess of low risk levels.

Now, you can complete the AUDIT below on your own drinking behaviour to work out your level of risk. If your score is eight or more, you are drinking in excess of low risk levels and your ADF health provider can give you information and support to help you cut down.
