The
re-invigoration of team sport at HMAS Cerberus in 2003 resulted
in the Cerberus Netball Club having a very successful year under
the leadership of club president CMDR Mark Hill.
Cerberus had two female teams play in the West Gippsland Netball
Association Saturday competition and two mixed teams in the local
Westernport Netball Association (WNA) midweek competition.
A female and mixed team also travelled to Wagga Wagga for the
inaugural Kapooka netball 7s in March, with the mixed team placing
third in its competition.
In November, a mixed team competed at the Australian Corporate
Games in Melbourne, winning through to the second final on day
two.
Points gained from the netball competition and combined with the
results from other Cerberus sporting teams assisted the Royal
Australian Navy in winning division five (51-100 participants)
and the medallist award.
Both mixed teams in the local WNA competition played in grand
finals in early December, with Cerberus One runners-up in the
A grade competition and Cerberus Two winning the B grade competition.
All the teams during the year were mainly comprised of category
school trainees, with their participation in sport integral to
developing teamwork, self-confidence, physical fitness and leadership
skills as part of the Category School Enhancement Program.
