LCDR
John Metzl, LSPT Damien Liddell and SMNMT Russell Sauer are the
winners from the Defcredit Carr Cup (singles) and Burrell Cup (doubles)
Tennis competitions for 2002.
Ten players contested the Carr Cup on November 6, followed by nine
teams in the Burrell Cup on November 13, with enthusiasts coming
from bases and establishments in Sydney and Canberra, plus HMAS
Albatross.
The round-robin format saw the top six players contest the finals,
with results as follows:
Carr Cup:
Semi-final one — LCDR John Metzl (HMAS Kuttabul) def LS Steven
Davison (HMAS Albatross) nine games to nil; semi-final two —
LSPT Damien Liddell (HMAS Kuttabul) def SMNMT Russell Sauer (HMAS
Kuttabul) 9-2.
Final — LCDR John Metzl def LSPT Damien Liddell, 9-2.
Burrell Cup:
Semi-final one — LSPT Brian Garrety and LSET Scott Barnes (HMAS
Watson) def LS Steven Davison and AB Greg Lewis (HMAS Albatross)
1-6, 6-4, 6-2; semi-final two — LSPT Damien Liddell and SMNMT
Russell Sauer def ABMT Martin Price and SMNMT Smith (HMAS Kuttabul)
