Air show a flying success

HMAS Albatross (CAPT Timothy Barrett) successfully assisted with the Nowra Air Show held lastmonth.

Hosted by Australia’s Museum of Flight, the air show included a vintage car rally, model aeroplane demonstration and museum display.

CPO Linton Lee and his team from 723 SQN gave a handling demonstration that saw the rotor blades of their Squirrel helicopter folded into the stowage position.

A Sea King from HS 817 Squadron was also on display with a Navy highlight being the dropping of a vehicle from an 816 Squadron Seahawk.

The air show had a range of “performing arts” including Miss Fire - an American fighter trainer complete with jungle camouflage, parachute drops, an aerobatic RussianMig 15, a Harvard and Yak 52 two-plane tail chase, and glider handling.

Also on display at the show was Erik’s Express - a Navy DC3 Dakota.

The formation fly past was taken by the Roulettes, six PC-9A single engine turboprop aircraft from the RAAF Central Flying School.
