Huge
crowds expected for GI heritage
More
than 5000 members of the public are expected to flock on to Garden
Island/ Sydney on Sunday, November 24 for a Naval Heritage
Day.
They will arrive by shuttle bus and ferry.
The historic gardens on the naval base will be open to the visitors
along with the 128 year-old barque James Craig, the minehunter HMAS
Norman and a navigation training vessel.
There will be performances by the RAN Band/Sydney, the Federation
Guard and the Heritage Marine Corps.
Tours of the historic gardens will include a call at the site of
Australias first graffiti, a visit to Australias first
lawn tennis court and the historic signal station atop the island.
There will be an exhibition of paintings and photographs while Task
Force 72 members will display their model warships.
The conning tower of one of the Japanese submarines which attacked
Sydney in 1942 will be on display.
The open day will run from 10am to 4pm.
Access is via the main Garden Island gate or by special ferry from
Circular Quay, with food and drinks available.
