Waller links to Grafton cadets

A link has been forged between the Collins class submarine HMAS Waller and the cadet training ship TS Shropshire based in Grafton.

It came about because the commanding officer of the submarine, LCDR Jason Cupples, hails from Grafton.
When LCDR Cupples took command in May he made contact with the training ship’s commanding officer SBLT Mike Schulzer.

A second link to the chain was forged on September 14 when the submarine’s XO, LEUT Philip Stanford, visited the ship.

He presented a talk to the cadets on the Maritime Command Organisation and more specifically on the RAN submarines. His presentation resulted in a robust session of questions and answers.

LEUT Stanford reported back that the Shropshire cadets were well turned out, well informed and enthusiastic. One of the unit’s cadets is bound for HMAS Cerberus later in the year.

It is intended to continue the relationship between Waller and the unit and keep the cadets abreast of the submarine’s activities as she readies to commence a busy operational period.
