New GPS a first for RAN divers

Clearance Dive Team One recently became the first of the ADF’s Clearance Diving Teams to field an underwater GPS capability.

The Rockwell Collins underwater GPS from Rockwell receivers, allows the Clearance Divers to navigate with high degrees of confidence when conducting clandestine diving tasks without compromising themselves by surfacing to visually confirm features and waypoints.

The underwater GPS receivers, just like the land-based receivers used by Army, also provide the divers with significant resistance to jamming, in comparison to commercial GPS receivers, and are extremely resistant to being fed false position signals (spoofing).

AUSCDT FOUR, SASR and 4RAR (Cdo) will also be provided with underwater GPS receivers to round out the new capability within ADF’s Special Forces.
