Robert Carter’s Brisbane immortalised in oil. The artist says the prints are now ready to buy.
Among the sea riders on the final voyage of DDG HMAS Brisbane was marine artist Robert Carter.

He told his fellow sea riders he planned to paint the warship, dubbed by some as “the five mile sniper” because of her bombardment of the shore during the Vietnam war.

Many of the fellow sea riders indicated they would be interested in purchasing a print of Robert’s completed work.

The painting (pictured) is complete and Robert is now accepting orders for prints at his home at 57 Wimbledon Avenue, Narrabeen, 2101, telephone (02) 9913 8520.

Meanwhile Brisbane, stripped of equipment worth millions of dollars, remains alongside Fleet Base One in Sydney while her fate is determined.

One suggestion is that she would be sunk as a dive site off the Queensland coast.

Sister ship Hobart is due to be sunk, also as a dive site, off the South Australian coast early next month.
