RAN Band Music Director LEUT Paul Cottier puts the band through it’s paces at the Elder Hall recital in South Australia.
The RAN Band recently captivated its audience with a performance at Adelaide University’s Elder Hall.

The performance was part of the band’s national tour aimed at promoting the Navy and its career opportunities.
Accompanying renditions of Advance Australia Fair, Waltzing Matilda and Star Spangled Banner, were images of the RAN throughout history on a large screen in the hall.

RAN Band-Sydney Detachment Officer-in-Charge and Music Director LEUT Paul Cottier, said he had been very happy with the band’s performance and hoped it would encourage young South Australian musicians to consider joining up.

“We had eight South Australians in the band tonight and this was special for them because it was the first time in 20 years that we have performed as a massed band at Elder Hall,” said LEUT Cottier.

Senior Naval Officer - South Australia, CMDR John Parkin said it was terrific to host the band in the lead-up to Navy Week.

“We don’t often get the band here in South Australia and it served as a great prelude to Navy Week in the second half of October,” said CMDR Parkin.

“We hope to get them back again shortly. It’s also a wonderful opportunity for members of the SA Reserve Band, who do some great work around Adelaide, to integrate with the permanent Navy Band.”

The following evening, the band performed to an even larger audience at the Noarlunga Entertainment Centre, south of Adelaide.
