Vale POMEDH4 Pascal Suresh De Silva

CAPT Peter Sinclair, one of five MIF tactical commanders, says Australian ships in the MIF are “at the pinnacle”.
POMED Pascal Suresh De Silva.
POMED Pascal Suresh De Silva, at age 40 years, died suddenly in Cairns on July 1.
While it is difficult to convey notice for the passing of a colleague, it is with great ease that I talk of the special attributes of Pascal De Silva.

Pascal was a unique person who was very much respected and cherished by his friends and peers.

His enduring professionalism, dedication, enthusiasm and tireless work ethic bestowed him with respect and appreciation by all that were fortunate enough to have had work with him.

Pascal’s workmates will remember him for his warm, friendly, charismatic demeanour and as a person with a great sense of humour, practical jokes and friendly banter.

His appreciation and understanding of others and his consideration and love for his family and friends were just some of his endearing qualities.

It is with great sorrow we farewell our friend and shipmate. He will be sorely missed.

Pascal was remembered in a naval memorial service held at HMAS Cairns on July 12.

A naval funeral service was held in Sydney on July 15 and attended by Pascal’s family, friends and colleagues.

He was the eldest son of Stanley and Nesta De Silva of Hurstville NSW.

Pascal joined the Navy in May 1984 and on completion of his medical training had various postings around Australia.

On July 28, 1986 he gained qualifications in occupational and environmental health and attained specialist qualifications as a Navy Hygiene Sub Rate.

Pascal undertook two extended sea postings in HMAS Darwin and had the opportunity to deploy to East Timor, which was considered by Pascal as one of his career highlights.

Pascal’s daughters Shari and Paige, his family, friends and colleagues will sadly miss him.
