Childrens
view of Jerusalem
The
Israeli city of Jerusalem usually makes it on to Australian
television screens for the wrong reasons.
News footage of suicide bomb attacks, fighting in the streets
and the constant conflict between Arabs and Jews are all that
most Australians know about this city and its people.
Promises, an hour-long documentary on SBS, takes us deep into
Jerusalem, venturing inside the homes and lives of seven children
all neighbours but all growing up very far apart.
The children, a mix of Israeli and Palestinian kids aged between
8 and 13, speak frankly and openly about the political situation
theyve grown up in.
Some of the comments are truly shocking and a graphic illustration
of the climate of hatred theyve been born into.
Listening to the words from the mouths of babes, it becomes
clear that the divided city of Jerusalem will probably remain
so for generations to come.
Promises is an excellent documentary that highlights the depth
and hopelessness of the Middle-East conflict.
Documentary:
Promises. Sunday, September 22, at 8.30pm on SBS.
