Patriots seeking motorcycle members

November 27, 2000

Motorcycling members of the Australian Defence Force should be aware of a club specifically for full-time, reserve and ex-serving members of the Navy, Army & RAAF.

The club is called 'The Patriots' and is not a one percent club and does not wear a backpatch.

The Patriots has been around since its inception in 1993. The concept of the club came about from personnel wishing to join an established club, but due to service life and postings, found it difficult to.

Since its meagre beginnings and the Balnarring Shed days, the club has grown into State chapters with some having their own sub-chapters within each State.

The Patriots also has ties with fellow riders in the United Kingdom, New Zealand and the United States.

The Patriots is self-governed by strict guidelines incorporated within State law and the DFDA. They do not allow drugs or violence and promote equity amongst all members.

All potential members must be in possession of a rider's licence, and a road worthy motorcycle no less than 250cc.

Successful applicants will be awarded a nominee's patch and name rocker.

These are to be sewn onto a black leather vest, which is standard dress for members.

During your nominee period, you will be expected to attend monthly rides, meetings and organise one event.

If you are interested or know someone who is, please contact LSPT Dave Murr via the following methods (he looks forward to your response): Gymnasium, HMAS CERBERUS 03-5950 7926/7744, or email: Dave.Murr@defence.gov.au.
