COLLINS in Sydney
November 27, 2000
When passengers on a passing Sydney ferry waved the crew of submarine HMAS
COLLINS really knew they were back "down under."
Near to an end was a voyage which began on June 6 and took CMDR Peter Scott
and his 42 personnel as far north as Alaska.
On the way the lead boat of the Collins class was put to the test…and did
indeed impress.
Patches of brilliant sunshine bathed the 3,350 tonne submarine when she
traversed the Sydney Heads on Monday, November 20, and went to No 2 Buoy
to be cleared by Customs.
After a short stay she moved on to Fleet Base East.
COLLINS's real welcome home will come when she reaches her homeport, HMAS
STIRLING before Christmas.
