Two lengths of giant chain to upgrade naval moorings was delivered to HMAS STIRLING.

One of the chains, delivered by Perth company Jeyco Mooring and Rigging, comprised 73cm long links weighing 220 kilograms each, with a total weight of 8.2 tonnes.

Jeyco spokesman Robert Underhill said the chain was largest the company, which has more than 60 years experience in the mooring industry, had ever handled.

The other cables , provided by Cully's Electrical, comprised 102mm stud links.

The chains will be used to replace existing cabling on two of the navy's moorings off Garden Island before the end of the year after a tender for their installation has been selected.
