Fast new RHIB

August 21, 2000

The RHIB in action on
Sydney Harbour.
The RAN is using a "fast" rigid hulled inflatable boat.

Part of testing will see it used during the Olympic Games for the rapid deployment of clearance divers.

The 7.3 metre craft is assigned to the Australian Clearance Diving Team One. It has two outboard motors.

When asked its top speed the Executive Officer of AUSCDT ONE, LEUT Max Muller, replied ,"fast."

The vessel is supplied by Britton Marine, the company of Australian boating expert Steve Britton.

It carries a coxswain and a "deckhand" but can carry about a dozen passengers in forward facing seats.

The RHIB carries sophisticated communications equipment.

It is identical to a fleet of boats acquired by the NSW Police.
