SYDNEY/HUON raft up

August 7, 2000

HMAS HUON
The coastal mine hunter, HMAS HUON, has successfully rafted alongside HMAS SYDNEY to undertake the first Replenishment At Sea (RAS) (Liquid) of its kind.

The fine weather of the day provided an acceptable sea state to conduct this difficult evolution.

SYDNEY stopped way to allow HUON to come alongside.

Separated by fenders, the required hoses were connected and the fuelling proceeded in textbook fashion.

The RAs(L) took place in the South China Sea on transit to Singapore. Approximately 2800 US gallons of diesel (F44) were transferred to the MHC via SYDNEY's oily waste line.

The success of this evolution displays the flexibility of our ships and has proven an extremely useful capability.
