Defence licence changes

August 7, 2000

Most ADF members will be aware of the existence of the Defence Driving Licence Scheme (DDLS) whereby ADF personnel and their dependants who are transferred interstate on posting are not required to renew their current driving licence in the new state/territory of residence until that licence expires.

Until recently this applied in all states and territories. However, as a result of advice from authorities in Victoria and the Northern Territory there have been some changes.

In the Northern Territory, both ADF personnel and their family members are required to transfer existing licenses within three months of being posted to the Northern Territory. The transfer will be at no cost and the new NT licence will have the same expiry date and classifications as the licence being transferred.

Current details on the DDLS and the accompanying conditions and administrative requirements (including the issue of Defence Driver Identification Form AB 135) are outlined in DI(G) PERS 17-2, which was revised and reissued on May 30 2000.
