SGT Michael Lyddiard , the Townsville-based soldier wounded in Afghanistan last November has spoken publicly for the first time.

Sgt Lyddiard was severely wounded when an improvised explosive device he was trying to render safe, detonated.

The soldier has undergone intense rehabilitation and is expected to return to work shortly.
