RAAF Base Richmond Ramp Ceremony

Private Nathanael Galagher and Lance Corporal Mervyn McDonald of 2 Commando Regiment were returned home by a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) C-17 Globemaster and commemorated by their Regiment during a Ramp Ceremony at RAAF Base Richmond, Wednesday 05 September 2012.

Private Galagher and Lance Corporal McDonald were killed while serving with Australia’s Special Operations Task Group in Afghanistan, when an International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) helicopter crashed in Helmand Province during the early hours of 30 August 2012.

The two soldiers were received by members of the Australian Army, led by the Chief of the Defence Force, General David Hurley, AC, DSC; Special Operations Commander Australia, Major General Peter Warwick (Gus) Gilmore, DSC, AM; the McDonald and Galagher families.
