Army Courage Award Winners 2010

This year’s Army Challenge Award has reached out to the more than 735,000 footy players across the country – and now, with competition over for this season, there are big bucks to be handed out.

But it’s not just about money – the Award celebrates the key values of courage, initiative and teamwork – shared by the Army and by Aussie Rules footy players across the country.

In a hotly contested competition, West Coast Cowan supporters have rallied behind their club to win the $5,000 major prize in this year’s West Australia Army Challenge Award.

The Club and its supporters kicked over 961km to beat all comers by playing ‘Kick for Your Club’, a simple footy game on the Army Challenge Award website. The prize money will now be spent on something to benefit the club such as water tanks or footy equipment – it’s now up to them to decide how they can spend the money to benefit their club and grass roots football.

Across Australia supporters kicked over 31,800 km for their local club. The competition was fierce and West Coast Cowan and the local community should feel proud of their achievement.

Kade Morton from Watheroo Football Club is the winner of the 2010 West Australia Army Challenge Player Award and he will get to enjoy an awesome ‘Footy Weekend’ in Melbourne for him and a mate; a training session with Glenn Archer; and the Army Challenge Player Award Medallion for 2010.

Kade consistently demonstrated Courage, Initiative & Teamwork playing for his local team each week and accumulated the most points across the season.

Former North Melbourne champion Glenn Archer, regarded as one of the most courageous players in AFL history, is the official Ambassador for the Army Challenge Award.

“Congratulations to all who participated this year and especially to our winners,
