White Ribbon Day in the Top End
White Ribbon Day is an initiative to stop violence against women around the world.
In 1999, the United Nations General Assembly declared November 25 the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (IDEVAW) and the White Ribbon has become the symbol for the day. Today hundreds of thousands of white ribbons are worn by men and women across Australia.
The White Ribbon Foundation endeavours to do change the attitudes and behaviours that support or excuse violence against women in Australia.
The campaign aims to create awareness about the positive role that men can play in bringing an end to violence against women. To enable leadership, particularly by young men and boys, to bring about social change and to build collective knowledge and understanding of the effective prevention of violence against women.
