United States Secretary of Defense Dr Robert Gates is farewelled at the conclusion of AUSMIN

Australian Defence Staff Washington Head Air Vice-Marshal Kym Osley farewells United States Secretary of Defense Dr Robert Gates after the Australian-United States Ministerial Consultations, known as AUSMIN.

AUSMIN is the premier forum for strengthening the Australia-United States alliance and is a key opportunity to discuss perspectives and approaches on major global and regional issues and to deepen bilateral cooperation.

AUSMIN is held on a reciprocal basis every year. 2010 marks its 25th anniversary as well as 70 years of formal diplomatic relations between Australia and the United States.
