AUSMIN Delegates arrive at Government House in Melbourne

Minister for Defence Stephen Smith MP and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kevin Rudd MP hosted United States Secretary of Defense Dr Robert Gates and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton at Government House Victoria for the Australia-United States Ministerial Consultations, known as AUSMIN.

Secretary Gates and Secretary Clinton were accompanied by the United States Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen and the Commander Pacific Fleet, Admiral Patrick M. Walsh.

AUSMIN is the premier forum for strengthening the Australia-United States alliance and is a key opportunity to discuss perspectives and approaches on major global and regional issues and to deepen bilateral cooperation.

AUSMIN is held on a reciprocal basis every year and 2010 marks its 25th anniversary as well as 70 years of formal diplomatic relations between Australia and the United States.
