Leopard MBTs to be distributed to RSL clubs

Almost thirty Leopard Main Battle Tanks will be distributed to RSL clubs across Australia, bolstering the community’s relationship with the Australian Defence Force. Displaying the retired 42 tonne tanks in the community will allow civilian and Defence members to honour Australia's proud military history.

The Leopards played a central role in maintaining national security, operating for almost thirty years.

They were retired in 2007, before the Australian Army received the advanced M1A1 Abrams. The Leopards are expected to be delivered to the RSL clubs in the second half of the year. The Government will pay for the cost of transportation of the tanks to selected clubs, estimated at about $22,000 per tank.
