Sea Air Rescue off the WA Coast

A Royal Australian Air Force C-130H Hercules from No. 37 Squadron provided Search and Rescue assistance in response to a rescue beacon, which was activated yesterday morning in waters south of Esperance.

The Hercules crew sighted a life raft and orange smoke with people on board at 11.50am Western Standard Time yesterday deploying an Air Sea Rescue Kit to the life raft.

A helicopter contracted by the Rescue Coordination Centre and based at RAAF Base Pearce, subsequently confirmed three people onboard who were then rescued at 1.57pm Western Standard Time yesterday. All three people were suffering from hypothermia and have been transferred to Esperance Hospital.
