Governor- General visits Australia’s Federation Guard

Australia's Federation Guard celebrated their 10th birthday yesterday, in lieu of their official birthday which was on 7 March, with a cake cutting ceremony and a performance by the Precision Drill Team. The Governor-General Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC, His Excellency Mr Michael Bryce AM AE and the Commandant of the Australian Defence Force Academy were in attendance.

Australia's Federation Guard was officially launched on 7 March 2000 for the INTERFET welcome home parade. Since then "The Guard" has gained a reputation of a professional ceremonial unit serving the ADF and Government in Australia and overseas to a high standard.

Australia's Federation Guard was initially formed to provide ceremonial Guards for functions associated with the Centenary of Federation in 2001 (hence the name). However the range of duties, combined with the high calibre of performances conducted by the unit, as allowed Australia's Federation Guard to become recognised as an integral part of military service that has continued beyond our Centenary of Federation.
