International Women's Day Celebration Canberra

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on the 8th of March across the world every year. IWD was established in 1911 when women were fighting for issues of pay, conditions and political rights. During International Women's Year in 1975, IWD was given official recognition by the United Nations (UN) as a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women in the past, present and future.

Defence annually participates in celebrations of IWD to mark the progression and accomplishments of women in Defence. This year, Defence will host celebrations in Canberra and the regions.

The UN has themed the 2010 event as “Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities: Progress for all”. Defence has adapted this theme and will celebrate “Engaging Everyone in Gender Issues”.
