Army Celebrates 109 Years

To mark the occasion of the 109th birthday of the Australian Army a commemorative service was held at the Australian War Memorial around the Pool of Reflection.

Army members attending the service were addressed by Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Ken Gillespie. He spoke of the history of the Australian Army, its traditions and of the sacrifices made in the service of Australia.

The event, followed by breakfast and cutting of a cake, was deliberately low key in anticipation of the 110th birthday next year to coincide with the centenary celebrations of the Royal Military College.
