Darwin Footpath Construction Team 'Tin City' To Sergeant's Mess
Airfield Engineer and Work Supervisor Warrant Officer Robert ' Bob' Gourley from 1 Airfield Operations Support Squadron led a team of eight personnel through a six week project, constructing new concrete footpaths between 'Tin City' and the Sergeant's Mess at Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Base Darwin.
The team of eight personnel was made up from Plant Operators and Carpenters from RAAF Base Townsville and Richmond. During their busy six day a week schedule, members were involved with laying 178 cubic metres of concrete, producing 890 metres of footbath and installing 141 solar bollards along the footpath edging. During this time members have learnt the art form of working with concrete and have further enhanced their skills working in team environment.
The project has had an excellent outcome for RAAF Base Darwin, as there is now adequate lighting and footpaths between ‘Tin City’ and the Sergeant’s Mess, which will be widely used by both live-on members and the people who utilise ‘Tin City’ during peak exercise periods.
