Sapper Jacob Moerland and Sapper Darren Smith, Return Home
Sapper Jacob Moerland and Sapper Darren Smith, from the Brisbane-based 2nd Combat Engineer Regiment return home.
They are received by their families and their Unit during a Repatriation Ceremony conducted at RAAF Base Amberley, Brisbane. Both soldiers lost their lives following the detonation of an improvised explosive device whilst conducting a dismounted patrol in the Mirabad Valley region of Oruzgan province, Afghanistan.
Minister for Defence, Senator John Faulkner MP; Shadow Minister for Defence, Personal and Science Bob Baldwin representing the Shadow Minister for Defence Senator David Johnston; Mr Shayne Neumann MP, Member of Blair; The Chief of Defence Force, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston; The Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Ken Gillespie, Commander 7th Brigade, Brigadier Paul McLachlan; Commanding Officer 2CER, Lieutenant Colonel John Carey were in attendance at the Repatriation Ceremony.
