First locally trained C-17A pilots course
The first RAAF pilots to be trained locally to fly the Boeing C-17A Globemaster started their conversion course at RAAF Base Amberley on 01 February 2010. The C-17A has been in RAAF service with No.36 Squadron since December 2006, and until now all pilot conversion training on the type, as well as currency training, has been completed either on the real aircraft or in the United States. A C-17A Weapons System Trainer, effectively a cockpit simulator for the aircraft, was handed over to Air Force in November 2009 and is the only one of its kind outside of the United States.
