Dents in the Soul DVD Launch

The Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Ken Gillespie launched the new Post Traumatic Stress Disorder DVD “Dents in the Soul” at Lavarack Barracks in Townsville on December 8. The DVD focuses on serving Army members telling their story of their symptoms and recovery. John Shumann, the lead singer of the band Redgum and writer/singer of the iconic song “I Was Only 19”, is the narrator and interviewer on the documentary style video and was at the launch with his band The Vagabond Crew. The DVD includes information from health professionals regarding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder assessment, treatment services and programs. A new soldier and family support precinct at Lavarack Barracks in Townsville was also opened by Lieutenant General Gillespie. To be known as the Cassowary Precinct, facilities and services provided include a new gymnasium, a trial soldier recovery unit and a central office for Department of Veterans Affair’s liaison officers and other counselling services. The gymnasium was built as part of the Lavarack Barracks Redevelopment at a cost of 11.5 million dollars. The state of art complex will not only support soldiers but their families as well.
