RAAF Williamtown Base Crash Exercise

An exercise simulating a military aircraft crash, occurred this morning at RAAF Base Williamtown. The exercise tested the Base’s Emergency Response Plan and current command and control structures.

Today’s exercise scenario featured an aircraft, with 25 passengers and five crew, suffering a ‘heavy landing’ causing catastrophic damage to the undercarriage. Parts of the aircraft fuselage subsequently broke up and impacted with a military jet awaiting departure.

Emergency response exercises are routinely conducted to ensure the RAAF’s responses to emergencies are practiced and effective.
