Repatriation Ceremony of Lance Corporal Jared MacKinney

Lance Corporal Jared MacKinney returned home today to be met by his family, loved ones and mates from Brisbane based 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment in a solemn and dignified ceremony at RAAF Base Amberley.

Lance Corporal Jared MacKinney, aged 28 lost his life when he was killed in action while on patrol in the Deh Rawud region of Afghanistan, 24 August 2010.

The Australian soldier from The 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, based in Brisbane, was deployed to Afghanistan on Operation Slipper as a part of the 1st Mentoring Task Force.

The ceremony was attended by family, friends, members of his regiment, Chief of the Defence Force Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston AC, Chief of Army Lieutenant General Ken Gillespie AO DSC CSM, Commander of the First Division Major General Mick Slater DSC AM CSC; and Commander of 7th Brigade Brigadier Paul McLachlan ADC.

Also in attendance were the Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon. John Faulkner; Mr Andrew Laming MP representing the Shadow Minister for Defence; and Member for Blair Mr Shayne Neumann.

Lance Corporal MacKinney was on his fourth Operational tour and his second tour to Afghanistan.
