EX Gold Eagle 2009 Lake Emerson
Of all the new environments that the Australian Tank Soldiers experienced during Exercise Gold Eagle, Emerson Lake, a dry salt lake bed in the 29 Palms Training Area, was one of the more unusual.
As the M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tanks advanced across the low scrubby desert, the Australian crews from the Darwin based 1st Armoured Regiment, found themselves driving across the salt encrusted surface of Emerson Lake.
