Navy Seahawks - 20 Years of Dedicated Service

Navy’s Seahawk helicopters, home based at 816 Squadron at HMAS Albatross, are celebrating 20 years of service to the Royal Australian Navy this week.

The Seahawks have flown over 60,000 hours of operations and have been involved in every major Navy operation over the last 20 years.  This has included operations in the Middle East, East Timor, the Solomon Islands and more recently in support of anti-piracy in the Gulf of Aden.

The Seahawks have also been called on to support the civil community during fire, contributing to the 1998 Sydney to Hobart yacht race rescue efforts and bushfire support and major flood relief efforts.

The Seahawk helicopter is equipped with a range of integrated sensors and weapons systems which makes the aircraft a vital element in Navy’s combat capability.
