Trooper David "Poppy" Pearce Memorial Service

A memorial service was held for Trooper David ‘Poppy’ Pearce on 8 October 2008, marking the first anniversary of his death. The service was held at the Regimental Head Quarters of the 3rd Combat Engineer Regiment, Lavarack Barracks, Townsville.

Lieutenant Colonel David Wainwright, Commanding Officer, 3rd Combat Engineer Regiment, welcomed hundreds of soldiers from all over Queensland, who gathered to remember Trooper Pearce.

“Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all who mourn the loss of Trooper Pearce, especially his wife Nicole and the girls,” said Lieutenant Colonel Wainwright.

A devoted family man, Trooper Pearce died serving the country he loved, while deployed with the Reconstruction Task Force in Afghanistan. His heroic sacrifice will always be remembered by those who attended the morning Memorial Service.

Private John Burrett of the 3rd Combat Service Support Regiment, Transport Unit, recalls one of many fishing adventures with his mate Trooper Pearce, near their family homes on Queensland’s Gold Coast: “David and I had a lot of great times. We did our Infantry training together and always made time for fishing. I’ve just been posted to Townsville and its days like today that you really miss your family.”

Lest we forget
