HMAS Manoora on Exercise Joint Kiwi
28 May 2008
The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Amphibious Transport Ship, HMAS Manoora has commenced the maritime exercise JOINT KIWI 08 with the Royal New Zealand Navy.
Australia and New Zealand experience a close and longstanding defence relationship, with similar regional interests in security and stability in the Pacific.
In waters off the east coast of the south island of New Zealand, Manoora will participate in the New Zealand-led exercise, which is aimed at improving interoperability between both nations.
During JOINT KIWI 08, Australian and New Zealand Defence forces will conduct amphibious beach landings and withdrawals, designed to increase joint preparation between the two countries, for emergency disaster relief and peacekeeping.
JOINT KIWI 08 will continue until Monday 19 May. Manoora will then transit to Wellington for a short visit before returning to Australia.
