Reconstruction Task Force soldiers farewelled from Sydney

20 March 2008

Soldiers from the fourth rotation of the Reconstruction Task Force (RTF4) who are deploying to Afghanistan were formally farewelled by families and friends at a parade at Holsworthy Barracks, Sydney.

Around 400 soldiers will deploy with RTF 4 at the start of what is traditionally the fighting season in the Spring in Southern Afghanistan.

The Task Force is formed around the Brisbane-based 6th Engineer Support Regiment (6ESR) and includes elements from the 6th Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR) also based in Brisbane, and the 3rd Royal Australian Regiment (3 RAR) from Sydney.

The RTF is equipped with BUSHMASTER and ASLAV armoured vehicles, and an array of engineering plant to carry out its reconstruction projects in the towns and villages of Oruzgan.
