Reconstruction Task Force 4 deployment training

14 March 2008

Soldiers from the 4th rotation of the Reconstruction Task Force (RTF 4) have started the first phase of their pre-deployment training, prior to their tour in Afghanistan. They will be serving on Operation SLIPPER, the ADF’s contribution to the NATO-led ISAF mission in Oruzgan Province later this year. The soldiers are on exercise at the Wide Bay Training Area in Queensland.

Around 400 soldiers will deploy with RTF 4 later this year at the start of what is traditionally the fighting season in the Spring in southern Afghanistan.

The Task Force is formed around the Brisbane-based 6th Engineer Support Regiment (6ESR) and includes elements from the 6th Battalion The Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR) also based in Brisbane, and the 3rd Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (3 RAR) from Sydney.

The RTF is equipped with BUSHMASTER and ASLAV armoured vehicles and an array of engineering plant to carry out its reconstruction projects in the towns and villages of Oruzgan.
