No. 285 Squadron Boeing 707 Simulator Decommissioning

26 June 2008

On June 25, 2008, the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) retired its Boeing 707 Simulator from service after nine years of operation by No. 285 Squadron. A small ceremony with representatives from contractors CAE, Defence Material Organisation, Air Lift Group and Nos. 33 and 285 Squadrons marked the occasion at RAAF Base Richmond. This event coincides with the retirement of the final B707 (A20-624) 'Richmond Town', on June 30. The simulator was the first 'Level-Five' accredited military transport simulator, delivering a high standard of graphics and environmental recreation for the user, and allowed real B707 flying hours to be utilised more effectively.
