Tiger helicopter arrives in the Northern Territory

20 June 2008

FINALLY 1 Avn Regt have a place to call home with the official opening of their Gaza lines on Robertson Barracks July 4.

The Gaza lines were purpose built to support the Tiger capability, including operational and deeper maintenance for the aircraft.

Hangars were also designed to support the Kiowa, S70 Black Hawk, and MRH90 and will soon support the EC135 Aircrew Development Aircraft, a civil contract with Australian Helicopters.

Construction on the lines commenced in 2004, was finalised in 2006 and handed over to DSG in 2007. The establishment consists of three precincts, command, aviation and logistics.

It is the first time in the regiments forty-three year history that the entire regiment will be housed in the same location.

The name Gaza was chosen for the lines as the regiment is able to trace its origins back to the Australian Flying Corps in WWI.
