Defence members selected to play for the "Barbarians" Rugby Union team

Defence Force members Leading Seaman Jason Harrington (Navy) and Corporal Zane Mitchell (Army) were today bestowed the honour of swapping their Australian Services Rugby Union jersey for the coveted Barbarians jersey they will wear when they run on the field this coming Sunday at Ballymore for a game against a Queensland XV. Wallaby scrumhalf Sam Cordingley did the honours in handing over the jerseys.

Jason Harrington, of Brisbane, a Naval Stores sailor and West Brisbane Bulldogs premier grade player is a 2nd rower in the Royal Australian Navy Rugby Union side and the Australian Services Rugby Union side. Jason was raised in Townsville and attended Ignatius Park College.

Corporal Zane Mitchell is an Army Aircraft Technician and has been playing representative rugby for Army since 2003 and Australian Services Rugby since 2004. His career highlights include tours of Asia and South America. Corporal Mitchell was awarded the player of the series in 2005 and is this year’s Australian Services Rugby Union Carnival Player of the Year. Corporal Mitchell has completed three operational deployments and is a Townsville native, attending Townsville Boys Grammar.
