Sergeant Lyddiard returns to work

Sergeant Michael Lyddiard (30) prepares to return to work at 3rd Combat Engineer Regiment, Townsville on 16 January 2008, with the support of his wife Katri.

Commander 3rd Brigade, Brigadier John Caligari and 3CER Major Roger McMurray were also on hand to offer support, representing what Sgt Lyddiard describes as his "other family".

Sgt Lyddiard was seriously wounded when an Improvised Explosive Device he was attempting to render safe detonated in Afghanistan on 2 November 2007.

Sgt Lyddiard was serving as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal operator with the Australian Reconstruction Task Force 3 in Afghanistan.
